Static versus dynamic, in one paragraph
A static QR code encodes the final web address. Once printed it cannot change. A dynamic QR code encodes a short link, so you can point it somewhere new tomorrow and every scan is counted as a click. Any code generated by a shortener is dynamic by nature. The question is how many you get and whether they are marked.

Before you print
- Check the code encodes your short link, not the destination. Otherwise it is static.
- Avoid watermarked codes on anything public. Rebrandly watermarks free codes.
- Think about how long the print lives. A menu or a poster outlasts the 30 days of free scan history on every plan. If you need the numbers next year, see when to pay.
- If the code encodes a link on your own domain, you can move providers later without reprinting. See free custom domains.
Why the Bitly QR designer is not the free pick
Bitly has the most capable QR design tool in this group, with frames, colours and logos. On the free plan you can make 2/mo, and scan history is not kept. The design tool is worth having if you are on a paid Bitly plan. It is not a reason to pick Bitly free.
